The event is Saturday, February 7, 2009, at Danbury's Ethan Allen Hotel. Admission is $125 per person or purchase a table of 10 for $1,000. It includes plentiful hors d'oeuvres, a spectacular silent auction, full open bar for the evening, a delicious three course dinner and entertainment by Higher & Higher, Connecticut's premier musical group.
During the evening, we will honor U.S. Congressman Christopher S. Murphy as DAWS Person of the Year for his commitment to animal advocacy.
Christopher S. Murphy, our Congressman in the Fifth District of Connecticut, is a strong advocate for animals. In his first term as U. S. Congressman, he co-sponsored the Downed Animals Act, which addressed issues associated with downed animals and food safety, and the Protect America's Wildlife Act, to end the barbaric practice of aerial hunting for sport. With his superb voting record in support of pro-animal legislation, Congressman Murphy is highly rated in The Humane Scorecard, a publication of the Humane Society Legislative Fund.
To his constituents who contacted Murphy regarding animal rights issues, he writes: "Whether they’re the pets in our homes or the wildlife that thrive in our national parks, animals deserve to be treated as more than just mere property, but as wildly complex living creatures that can think and feel in ways we may never fully understand. Here in Congress, I’m committed to working to make sure that they are treated with the respect and care they deserve."

The money raised through this event will fund Danbury Animal Welfare Society's rescue & adoption programs. In 2008 alone, over 450 animals have come through our shelter and many are still there waiting for their forever homes.
