Students from the Danbury High School chapter of the National Honor Society created a special fundraising program over the holidays to help raise awareness and funds for DAWS. The student group staffed a kiosk for four days in the student center, where they sold jewelry, hair accessories, and other small gift items. Thirteen students participated in the project, which raised $215 for the local nonprofit animal welfare group. Prior to the sale, the students toured the animal shelter to learn about the operation and its impact in the community.

Some of our shelter residents like to spend the day away from the shelter as DAWS ambassadors around town. They'll be at Petco in Brookfield a few times this summer to offer free kisses, purrrrs, and cuddles. Don't miss your chance to rub some bellies (of the animals, not the volunteers, please)! Who knows, you might just meet your next best friend!!
Please plan on joining us on Saturday, June 26, from when AquaDog Spa and Star Barks Grooming, located at 32 Stony Hill Road, Bethel (I-84, exit 8), hosts a DAWS community event.
There will be information on professional grooming, pet sitting/dog walking, and doggie daycare, as well as a table with DAWS literature and information. Adoptable dogs will be on-site for you to meet and greet.
Food and drinks will be available and a raffle will be held for 3 (three) FREE self-service dog washes, and 1 (one) FREE professional grooming.
Please stop by and check out AquaDog Spa, a self-service dog washing facility, and Star Barks, a full-service professional grooming studio, and all they have to offer! For more info visit www.aquadogonline.com

PetSaver Training AND PetTech Instructor Training
The PetTech Instructor Training is a comprehensive, 3-day, interactive program. Instructors will learn the necessary skills and teaching methods to properly train pet owners in CPR, first aid and care.
This course will include competent training in the identification and evaluation of the signs and symptoms a pet may develop and the appropriate actions to be taken for proper emergency medical treatment. The first day covers PetSaver Training (see description above).
As a PetTech Instructor, you can provide a much needed service for dog and cat owners, be part of a fun and growing industry, and generate revenue for your existing business. We have several instructors who are human CPR & First Aid instructors, pet sitters, groomers, vet staff and obedience trainers. "The Art of Racing in the Rain."
Anyone who loves dogs (and/or racecar driving) will love this book. It's a heartwarming story narrated by a dog named Enzo. We think it's sure to be a bestseller!
We have a brand new beautiful sign in front of our shelter now!
Doug Rofrano, owner of Signs Now of Bethel, CT and a DAWS volunteer, donated the sign to the shelter. Joe Andrews, a professional sign installer donated his time and service to get the sign in place. The sign was installed on Friday, March 27, 2009.
